From Assemblyman Gordon M. Johnson – Deputy Speaker.
Vice-Chairman, Judiciary Committee
Member, Budget Committee
Victory 2017 - Thank you!
I would like to say thank you to all the voters and everyone who worked so hard to make our campaign such a success. This race has always been about you and what we can accomplish together to improve the quality of life in District 37, and across our great State. On election night, I joined our next Governor Phil Murphy, and Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver in celebration of Victory 2017. Again, thank you to the voters and congratulations to everyone who played a part in this important victory.
On Veterans Day in Englewood we honored those who have proudly served our great country, and thanked them for their brave service and sacrifice. A special thank you to Olga Mosciaro and Frank Lucianna for everything they do for our community and for those who serve in the armed forces.
Nation Coalition of 100 Black Women
It was a tremendous honor to join the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Bergen/Passaic Chapter as they installed new officers, and their new President Paula Madison Ryner. It was a special occasion and we were honored to be joined by my colleague, Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver at the event. Congratulations NCBW Bergen Passaic Chapter.
The American Dream = JOBS!
This fall, I personally met with the President of the NJ Sports and Exposition Authority, 555 the developers of the American Dream project, and their lead contractor to ensure that diversity hiring for employees and vendors is a shared priority.
The American Dream project is a significant employment and economic opportunity for New Jersey. I was heartened to learn that the goals and targets regarding minority hiring and employment are mutually shared by all of the stakeholders involved in the American Dream project. This project will lead commerce and growth for everyone across our entire State and the northeast region.
Renewing a commitment to our servicemen and women
Together, we renewed a commitment to our New Jersey Veterans. To give them the resources, support, and assistance they need when transitioning back home. I was honored to join Secretary of State John Kerry, Governor-Elect Phil Murphy, and Lt. Governor-Elect Sheila Oliver at VFW Post 7165 in Clifton during the campaign. Our new Governor will transform the way we take care of our veterans in New Jersey.
I’m Heading to Trenton to Keep Fighting for District 37
In the new legislative session, I’m heading to Trenton to keep fighting for District 37, and our hard working, middle-class families. What matters is job creation and access to healthcare, and ensuring a quality education so everyone in our community and across New Jersey can reach that which we call the American dream.
Along with these priorities, I am also urgently working to bring needed commonsense gun-safety legislation in New Jersey to keep our children and this community safe.
I have a proposed an innovative film tax credit to stay competitive with others states in attracting the film and television industry. This is an exciting area of job creation for our state and will lead growth in our local economy.
I’m advancing an environmental legislative agenda that will help create jobs in new energy sectors, like fuel-cell technology and wind, to move us away from fossil fuels, and to help protect our natural resources.
I will continue to be a passionate voice for the cares of seniors, veterans, and the most vulnerable in our community. In the new legislative session, I look forward to working with our new Governor, Phil Murphy and Lt. Governor Shelia Oliver to reinvigorate and strengthen our New Jersey economy.
My warmest wishes to you and your family for a joyous and peaceful holiday season. Happy Holidays!
